Parcel Connect is a leading courier network in Ireland & Northern Ireland, which allows customers to send parcels from any location (i.e. from home or work) to Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK.
Parcel Connect offers a distinct SEND service offering:
From January 1st, 2021, Brexit is a reality that will have an impact on our daily lives. For example, if you purchase items from the United Kingdom, excluding Northern Ireland, and have them delivered into the Republic of Ireland and vice versa, custom formalities and possible new custom charges will come into effect. Why not take a minute or two and watch this simple Parcel Connect post-Brexit explainer video and how Parcel Connect is making Brexit simple.
With the ongoing negotiations between the European Union and the United Kingdom, here at Parcel Connect, we are planning with a ‘No Deal’ Brexit in mind. Our plans ensure a seamless movement of goods between Ireland and the United Kingdom and the United Kingdom to Ireland including Northern Ireland once the transition period ends on December 31st, 2020.
Once the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, customs formalities between both jurisdictions will apply whether there is either a ‘Trade Deal’ or ‘No Trade Deal’. In both scenarios, customs declarations will have to be completed for goods to travel in either direction.
If you are purchasing goods from the United Kingdom, excluding Northern Ireland, for delivery to an address within the Republic of Ireland, and if they are subjected to custom charges, you will be liable to pay these charges. These charges will either be collected at checkout by the retailer or before your package is released for delivery.
As a result of the United Kingdom, leaving the EU’s Customs Union and Single Market, goods being returned after the 31st December 2020, will be subjected to new custom declarations. For example, if returning an item of clothing, you will be required to describe the item in as much detail as possible, including what it’s made from, it’s value and origin. Additionally, you will have to select the commodity code, this is an 8 to 10 code used in international trade, which identifies the item. Including this code, ensures any duty owed is refunded to you. All Parcel Connect shipping solutions have been enhanced, to be compatible with the required customs declarations.
Important to note that any VAT (Value Added Tax), duty or other costs that are due to be returned to you, will be done by the retailer that initially collected these from you. In many cases, this will be the retailer you purchased the goods from, as VAT and duty would have been collected at checkout.
Customs declarations will not be needed for trade between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, as both will remain within the same customs union.
While we have enhanced our shipping solutions to be compatible with the required customs requirements, you can still expect the same great service at your local Parcel Connect store.
